In the project Poisonous Mushrooms, I used gears to control a series of wheels’ up and down movements and rotations. The audience can walk into the wood frame and play with the wheels. I painted colorful dots on the wheel and used mirrors to decorate the wheels. When the wheels begin to move and rotate, it creates a sense of funny, oddness, and illusion. Inside the wheel, there is a structure designed to control its movement: the band will turn gear A first, and gear A will turn gear B to rotate, which further rotates the wheels. And these two gears are stabilized by the two triangle wood pieces. On the outer surface of the wheels, the colorful dots and mirror fragments move when the wheel begins to rotate, which helps to mimic the illusion caused by the poisonous mushrooms. The audience can enjoy the beautiful rotation, dizziness, and illusion.
