Walkman is a small and portable instrument that fits into a pocket. It can be carried bythe audience everywhere and compose sound by themselves. The audience can puttheir hand inside the pocket, use fingers to touch and feel the texture of fabric, and thesound is created. In this keyboard, half of the area(bottom section) produces pianosounds(the notes go from low to high when the hand moves from left to right), and halfof the area(upper section) has three different sounds of drum beats(from left to right). The pocket has a leather case outside and a white liner inside, so the audience cantake out the liner and put it in any pocket of your clothes.
The outer case is decoratedwith patterns of a hand and a piano, which hints at the function and usage of thispocket. Inside the pocket, there are two layers: the bottom one is the layer withelectronics and wires and the upper one is a fabric collage with various textures. Thephysical technique on the bottom layer includes two MPR121 touch sensors, conductivethreads and Arduino Board; the software used is Touch Designer and VCV Rack(for thesound). The upper layer’s materials include yarn, cotton, linen, cotton, etc.
